Matt Berninger to Rolling Stone on being shortlisted for an Oscar

I think we’ll probably lose to a Muppets song, but you know, there’s no shame in that. It was really fun to see our names associated with the Academy Awards in any capacity. If we are in fact nominated that would be a blast, but none of us are crossing our fingers on that. Win Win was just a really fun project to work on. Tom McCarthy asked us to write a song for the end of the film. The whole thing was just a really good experience. So yeah, if it gets any more recognition, that would be just icing.

What follows are brief thoughts I managed to scribble down when I had the time and, I hope, provide a reasonably helpful description of the albums I have enjoyed the most this year.

Tom Waits on sounds

“I’m always looking for sounds that are pleasing at the time. The sound of a helicopter is really annoying until you’re drowning, and it’s there to rescue you. Then it sounds like music.” — Tom Waits

Holiday thought

Holiday advertising never makes me want to buy anything. Instead, it manages to make me aware of and grateful for the fact that I already have everything I need. To me, the holidays are entirely about spending time with friends and family. If you buy something for somebody, I hope it means something to the person receiving it as buying something just for the sake of doing so cheapens what is already a great time of year.

Tiny update

Playing with controls…which may ultimately see me depart from the original CSS only idea, if only for the sake of adding the desired buttons…but such is the limitation of trying to use only CSS at this time. Tell me what you think about it.

Working on something for fun for the first time in quite a while…which will likely end up written to run on Bowtie/Ecoute.
